Abundance comes in many forms, and really you never quite know how it’s going to show up in your life. Recently I visited an allergen free bakery after I promised my children a super treat. We are gluten/soy/dairy free and it’s not always easy to find truly wonderful things for them to eat. This bakery is fabulous and full of safe yumminess.
While I was in there waiting to purchase a brownie that we could share a mother daughter combo entered. The overwhelm on her face as she perused the packages was apparent and my heart went out to her. She was looking for something for her daughter that would be safe for her. I am very familiar with working with people who have newly diagnosed allergies and that was what was going on here. When you have to eliminate foods for health reasons it feels urgent and scary. It’s not always easy to navigate this “new world” either, it just feels like too much.
As she walked around it became apparent (to me-because I know how it feels) that the prices, which while fair for allergen free gourmet desserts, were shocking. She whispered to her precious daughter that they couldn’t get anything right now and would have to find something else. The little girl was clearly upset and tearful, but left willingly. The sight was just too much for this mama to take!
I grabbed two of the most beautiful cookies I saw, a large beautiful snowflake that had purple royal icing and piped snowflakes on it and a beautiful angel with sparkly sugar crystals on it. I told the cashier I’d be right back and ran them out to the two of them as they were getting into their car. I wished them a happy holiday and got such a brilliant smile from the little one that I thought my heart would burst! I truly enjoyed being able to give these gifts, it absolutely made my day! Mama, if you are out there, please know that I’ll be thinking of you! It does get easier, I promise! I hope that your cookies were delicious!
