I was writing to my Irish Potato Famine grandma. I don't know too much about her, but I know that her daughter, my great-grandma, came over to American on a boat, utterly alone, at age fifteen. She had no money and nowhere to go, but there was no food back in Ireland, so it was either try your luck in America or starve to death in Ireland. Can you imagine? The poor thing never saw any of her family again. Heck, even my own grandma, growing up in Boston (brrrrrrr), lived in an unheated home, five to a bed. I'm so glad she told me her stories -- they've kept me feeling perpetually grateful and lucky my whole life long! Awww, thanks guys! I was writing to my Irish Potato Famine grandma.
